(More customer reviews)This is only the second day I've had this watch so I'll update this review when my experience with it matures.I have to say though that so far I'm very impressed with the watch.Bear in mind that as a general rule an automatic watch isn't as accurate or consistent as a quartz watch. So you have to expect some loss or gain of time and especially while the watch "settles" or breaks in to it's normal operation.Time keeping is what it's all about with a watch as far as I'm concerned.I don't care at all about the "bling" factor, if a watch doesn't keep good time it's worthless.
The watch arrived yesterday and I set the time, adjusted the band, etc. immediately after opening the package.
This watch doesn't "time hack", the second hand continues to move at it's normal rate with the crown pulled out to the time setting position.I always use data from the NIST cesium atomic clock for accuracy checks and time setting, there is no more accurate source for exact time on the planet so if there's a deviation you know it's the watch and not the atomic clock.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that I didn't need to "hack" the second hand because it was already correct.I figure that I just got lucky with this, the watch had to have sat somewhere more than 40 hours since it left the factory and 40 hours is what the manual says it's power reserve is once fully wound by the automatic mechanism.Still, the odds are 1 in 60 so that's gotta be luck.
24 hours later I get ready to set the time and check for accuracy.I launch the atomic clock program on my computer and look at the watch. The watch is exactly correct, no need to set or change anything. This is very rare with an automatic watch. So much for one day accuracy, and I'm very happy about that, I'll check it again every day and we'll see how it does with 1 week and 1 month.More on that when I update this review.
One of the main reasons I bought this watch was it's reputed accuracy.Bear in mind that all 2ER000xx series watches from Orient have the same movement so a review of any applies to all except for minor cosmetic differences. Many, many people have commented on the accuracy of this watch and especially for an automatic movement. If you do some research on Orient you'll find that they have an excellent reputation for accuracy. You often see reviews of this series where people are very pleased with the accuracy of the watch and make statements to the effect that "they must have gotten lucky" to get an automatic with such good accuracy. As of today I don't think people are getting lucky, I think Orient makes a fine time piece.Time will tell though and I'll update when I know more.
I'm very particular about the accuracy of a watch so I'm writing about the accuracy of this one for others who may want to know before they make a purchase.
On to the rest of the watch...
It came well packed from Amazon in a nice sturdy box with an instruction manual and the "International Guarantee" certificate. The factory box is about the same as other watches so no issues there. There was no damage on the shipping box or the factory box inside.
Others have commented that the band/bracelet is of inferior quality and has sharp edges, etc. This is a solid link (as opposed to folded link) band and I have no issues with it at all.Mine doesn't have sharp edges, it appears to be very solid and sturdy although it is very light in weight.I don't consider that a negative myself, it offsets the weight of the watch somewhat. There is a slight taper to the band, it goes from 20mm at the link on the watch case to 15mm at the link connected to the deployment style clasp. The clasp is the standard folding deployment type with a folding safety over the main clasp. The link pins are the standard split pin, not screws, and held in place by substantial tension.I had a bit of a hard time drifting two of them out to remove a link so you'll want to be careful not to damage anything if you need to remove a link.Find the side that has the split showing (it looks like a tiny screw head but it's not) and using a small flattened nail or something similar drift the pin out by striking it on the solid (opposite the split) side until the little tension lobe on the split end of the pin is clear of the link. At that point you should be able to pull the link out with whatever tool (hemostat, needle-nose pliers, etc.) you care to use. There is a tool made specifically for doing this if you want to buy one.I like my watch to be fairly snug so it doesn't roll around my wrist and I do not experience any discomfort or problems with this band.Unlike other reviewers I find the band comfortable, adequate and sturdy enough for daily wear.
The dial is a very deep, dark charcoal color. It looks black in any light except full sunlight. It's very attractive and easy to read.I'm very satisfied with the appearance of the dial.
The hands including the second hand have luminous paint and though I have seen brighter examples they do a decent job of remaining readable in very dark conditions for more than 10 hours. The watch was exposed to full sunlight for approximately 10 minutes yesterday and I could still read the time in full dark this morning when I woke up.The illumination is adequate but not real bright.
The one-way rotating bezel has a tiny bit of play in it but is reasonably tight. The stops are very positive and it does take a bit of force to turn it so it shouldn't move on it's own under normal conditions. There is a luminous dot at the "zero" position and that is set into the bezel deep enough that it shouldn't get knocked off or loose while wearing the watch. The bezel is scalloped along the top edge, it is NOT coin edged. This is not a problem as I have no trouble moving it.The bezel is also very slightly larger (+/- 1-2mm) than the watch case, making it easy to grasp and turn.
The watch design follows the classic "submariner" style.Rolex originated this format and it's been very popular ever since. The watch is not an imitation Rolex, rather the submariner style has proven so functional that it is often employed by other watchmakers. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery then this watch is evidence of a fine design style that has been very popular with consumers for a long time.I have had several comments in the one day I've worn it, people seem to like the looks of this watch as much as I do.The picture here on Amazon doesn't really do it justice so to save some time for others here is a link to Orient's website with much better details on this and other 2ER series watches:

Ok, well I guess Amazon won't let you put a URL in here... Google "orientwatchusa" and click on the Diver watch.
Also I'd like to encourage people to read the other reviews both elsewhere on the web and here at Amazon on the 2ER series watches, there's a lot of good information available to help you decide if this is the watch for you.
This watch uses the Orient ER[487] 21 jewel movement.21 jewels means that significant bearing points are (typically) made of synthetic rubies for accuracy and wear resistance. I can't hear any audible ticking and do not experience any vibration from the movement.Another reviewer mentioned that his watch "vibrates", which should be impossible with a quality automatic watch movement, everything being very finely tuned and balanced. If you can feel an automatic watch vibrate you'd better send it back immediately because there's something terribly wrong with it.Or you'd better get to a doctor because there's something wrong with you.
In my experience watches with gold plating tend to have the gold wear off on the edges over time, which doesn't affect the watch function but does detract from it's appearance. If this watch holds up and still looks decent in a few months I'll probably buy the all stainless version (2ER0001B) for daily wear and keep this one for when I want something a little more "dressy".If the gold wears off I'll just keep this one for daily wear because, like I said, the "bling" factor is the bottom of my priorities. This is my first experience with this brand and I'm not buying any more Orient watches until I see how this one holds up.I've gotten burned in the past on other brands, if you want a good example of a really bad watch see my other reviews.
What I really wanted in this watch is an accurate time piece that looks decent, is sturdy enough for daily wear and reliable enough that I can have confidence in it.I'm self employed and being "on time at the right time" is a priority in my business. So far this watch meets those criteria at a very attractive price.
Speaking of price, this is an extremely good price for a decent, well made, durable daily-wear mechanical automatic watch. Orient is rapidly building respect in the U.S. market even though it's relatively new to this country. The fact that they make their own movements in-house says a lot about their commitment to quality, they're not repackaging another company's watch and calling it their own and their success in the market place hinges on the excellence they put into their product. My initial impression is extremely positive with this purchase.
It's going to be very nice not to have to take this watch in every year to get a new battery installed.
Like I said earlier, I'll update this review as time goes on and I get a better idea of it's quality through daily use.
UPDATE 2 Weeks:
I've had the watch for two weeks now and I really, really like it.It gained almost exactly one minute in the two weeks since I took it out of the box.So far...Read more›

I have had one of these ORIENT 2ER00003B watches since 2009 and it still looks great and keeps ALMOST perfect time. It is slow about 2 1/2 seconds/day and has been since the day I got it.
Simply amazing for an automatic watch that is under $150.
I replaced the bracelet with an $80 one which makes it FEEL like it looks...which is great.
A perfect 'Fauxlex'.
